A Guide for a Safe Getaway

Thinking of travelling somewhere throughout our great country for your summer vacation, then why not bring your pet along? Whether you plan to visit the mountains of Colorado, the beaches of Florida, or the parks of New York, your four-legged best friend makes a perfect companion. Exploring new places together can be fun as long as you make sure to keep their unique needs in mind. While pets are not allowed on international flights, Southwest Airlines’ Guidelines make it simple to fly throughout the U.S. with your furry companion:

  • Bring your pet in a carrier that is no larger than 18.5” long x 8.5” high x 13.5” wide
  • Your pet should be able to stand and move around in the carrier you provide
  • Ensure that your pet’s carrier is leak-proof and well-ventilated
  • Stow your pet under the seat in front of you for the entirety of the flight
  • Take your pet to a designated service animal relief area well before your flight
  • Reserve your pet’s space ahead of time by calling1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792)
  • Arrive early as only 6 pets are allowed and are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis

Now you and your pet can make memories that will last a lifetime.
