Big Heart.

Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego, a non-profit animal welfare group, is a network of foster homes and volunteers who work together to find loving permanent homes for the overwhelming number of unwanted, abandoned, abused and handicapped Chihuahuas and other small breeds in the San Diego area.

Since 2003, CRSD has found homes for over 3000 dogs. Ann Weber Pollock, Director, works tirelessly with the foster families and volunteers to provide medical attention, loving foster homes, pet adoption events and adoption counseling in an effort to find the dogs the most suitable forever homes. Chihuahuas are one of the most over-represented breeds in Southern California shelters, and CRSD is committed to reducing this statistic by increasing spay/neuter awareness in their communities.

CRSD also has a Silver Linings Program that places senior dogs with disabled citizens who are in a lower income situation and may not be able to afford the costs of a pet. The number of senior dogs being displaced is overwhelming and CRSD takes pride in taking in as many as possible, getting them up to date medically and finding the right home. CRSD takes care of the yearly exams, any minor medical that is needed and when the time comes for crossing over the rainbow bridge, they make those arrangements and take solace in the knowledge that the senior dog lived out their golden years with a special person who gave them all the TLC they deserved.

CRSD believes everyone can make a difference by either adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating. If a person is not able to adopt, foster or volunteer, CRSD encourages monetary sponsorship to assist with the costs of dental, other medical, or medications needed for minor medical conditions. The amount of adoption fees covers only 40% of their medical costs to get the dogs ready for their new home.

Check out their FaceBook page “Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego” which now has over 200,000 followers around the world or “Silver Linings Senior Dog Rescue.” Their web page has a calendar of adoption events posted and also a place you can see pictures and bios of current adoptable dogs and fill out the application to adopt which is the first step to any of our adoptions.
