How Style Saves Lives.

Since 2006, the Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) has found creative ways to raise money for animals in need of emergency veterinary care. The non-profit was established to eliminate “economic euthanasia” in San Diego County and has enlisted the help of community members to contribute in unexpected ways. The Closets for a Cause consignment program is one of FACE’s longest-running fundraising efforts, turning spring-cleaning into a vehicle for giving back.

Through the Closets for a Cause program, FACE receives high-end donations of “gently loved” clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories, which it then consigns with local businesses. The proceeds from these sales go directly to help pets when their families cannot afford the cost of life-saving veterinary treatment.

The idea began with a small group of fashion-forward philanthropists and has become a fun way for style lovers to support the goal of “saving pets and helping families.” Over the past three years, FACE has raised more than $22,000 through Closets for a Cause. As a bonus, FACE Consignment Consultant and expert fashion stylist Marie Green offers her concierge service and initial closet editing to interested donors.

“Donating to FACE Foundation’s Closets for a Cause program is a win-win,” FACE’s Executive Director Brooke Haggerty tells a pet’s life magazine, “You can help FACE save lives and clean out your closet at the same time!”
