Karen & Jim Brailean with Rollo and Maxwell.

The love for animals runs deep in the Brailean household. Karen and Jim Brailean, both are engineers are the proud parents of Rollo and Maxwell. They have built solid reputations for their talents but also for their good hearts. Dedicated to making our community a better place for all including pets, they founded TAGG the Pet Tracker. TAGG provides pet owners with the technology to ensure safety, measure activity and express love for their pets using advanced GPS, an accelerometer and wireless technology to help people locate and track the activities of their pets. We sat down with them and they shared with us their love for their two energetic and loving dogs, Maxwell and Rollo.

a pet’s life: How did Maxwell and Rollo come to join your family?

Karen and Jim Brailean: Rollo, a white, 65 pound Labradoodle is 8 years old and Maxwell, a tan 95; pound Golden Doodle is 5 years old. Rollo is a rescue dog who is totally devoted to us. He follows us everywhere we go all day long. We got Maxwell when he was 12 weeks old. He was the biggest of the litter, playing tug of war with one stuffed animal and three siblings – and he was winning! Maxwell is the opposite of Rollo. He is big, clumsy and adorable. He plays tug of war with us and when we let go, he runs around so proud that he won!

apl: What factors in your personal lives were important in selecting your pet?
KJB: We really wanted a dog that did not shed, so a dog that was part poodle was very helpful for us.

apl: Did you have to make any special adjustments to your home to help your pet?
KJB: We put dog beds in several of the rooms; but other than that, our dogs fit right in.

apl: What are the absolute strangest or funniest things that your pet does?
KJB: When they were puppies, they both ate the drywall! Maxwell was especially enamored with the electric wall plates. He would eat the drywall around the bottom edge and then snap off the wall plate while we were gone. For a while, we could not figure out what was happening. We went through eight or nine wall plates!

apl: Any special locations or activities your pet enjoys?
KJB: They love any pet store, of course! Rollo is a great shopper. He stops and sniffs everything but will not put anything into his mouth.

apl: Any other stories you would like to share?
KJB: We had borrowed a book about cheese from a friend who clearly loved the book and wanted it back. Rollo and/or Maxwell ripped the cover and first pages off of it one night when we were gone. (They never do anything bad when we are home!) We discovered to our horror that the book was signed! Karen emailed the author’s agent and begged for a new signed copy. I put pictures of both dogs and explained that while they look adorable they are actually horrible. The author was so kind. She signed two books for us, “I knew dogs loved cheese, but cheese books? Who knew!”
