How do I prepare my pets for a move?
Moving to a new home is one of the most stressful events not only for humans, but also pets. Cats do not like change, but you can help them adjust by bringing in moving boxes early and keeping them in a familiar room you plan to pack up last. On moving day, keep your pets in a quiet room with the door shut. Once you settle in a new space start by adjusting them to one room then gradually introduce them to other rooms in the house. Always keep a close eye on your pet’s behavior to see how they are adapting. It will take time, but they will adjust eventually.
How do I brush my pet’s teeth?
Dental care is an often-overlooked area of pet healthcare. It is important to examine your pet’s teeth and go to the vet if signs of brownish colored teeth; swollen, bleeding gums; consistent bad breath; loose or loss of teeth. You can help prevent dental problems by brushing their teeth in an oval motion almost every day with dog toothpaste – not human toothpaste as this can upset their stomach!
How do I prepare my pet to welcome a new baby?
During pregnancy is a great time to start to train your pet on the importance of boundaries and begin to introduce them to the concept of a new family member. Before the baby is born, cut back on attention so your pet does not feel a sudden change in attention, and walk them alongside the stroller. Once baby is born never leave the baby alone with your pet, include them when people visit, and establish the boundary of the nursery as off-limits. Teach your baby mutual respect and to not pull ears or tails.
