SoftSurg – The Softer Side Of Surgery.
1. Tell us what inspired you to get into the pet industry?
I grew up wanting to be a veterinarian – animals, particularly dogs and horses, were all I could think about since I was a little girl. While all my friends were dreaming about their white wedding dresses, I was imagining a white doctor’s lab coat! Thanks to the support of my parents, in 2002 I graduated from the University of Illinois as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. I then completed small animal surgical training in New York and New Jersey and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2013.
2. SoftSurg offers quality care for pets. As a board-certified Veterinary Surgeon and pet expert what would you advise pet parents to know about surgery?
SoftSurg became a full-time traveling surgery business in 2016. I wanted to focus on offering the highest quality board-certified veterinary surgical care in an affordable manner. This means that I perform surgery at your regular veterinarian’s office or at one of the local 24-hour hospitals, bringing all my own surgical equipment but utilitzing their nurses, anesthesia machines and medications. Working together allows us to help even more pets have optimal quality of life.
It is a fact that all surgical procedures come with risks, but these can be mitigated by proper planning and preparation. This is why my clients have direct access to me any time they need me – my involvement does not end when the surgery is finished. We will work together to solve any problems, ease any of your concerns and celebrate our surgical successes! That’s what “the softer side of surgery” really means!
3. What pets do you currently own?
My little princess is Pouf! the Pomeranian … isn’t she just gorgeous? She has quite the personality – she loves getting dressed up and throws temper tantrums when she doesn’t get her way! Pouf! is a happy dog who loves all people and has a calming effect on everyone she meets. She wants nothing more than to be petted, and she will paw at you if you stop! I do have to be careful where we venture for walks because her long hair is like Velcro and she often comes home with leaves, mulch and brambles in her fur! Her best doggie friends are Fluffers, Blondie and Biscotti, who live with my parents in Carlsbad; they certainly are The 4 Musketeers when they get together!
