Meet Brittany Alwerud from DogZenergy, the most innovative and trusted dog walking service in San Diego.

APL: Tell us about your business and what motivated you to start it?

I grew up with 6 dogs and several horses on a ranch in Temecula. When I went to UCSD, I was miserable in the dorm rooms with no animals around me. When I moved to Windansea Beach, I started walking my neighbor’s dogs so that I could fill the hole in my heart from missing my own dogs. Before I knew it, I was walking tons of dogs in my neighborhood and I decided to start the most professional, most reliable, most trusted dog walking business in all of San Diego. DogZenergy literally started out of love.

APL: What sets you apart from other dog walkers?

For the last ten years, we’ve been obsessed with making DogZenergy the most professional dog walking business in San Diego because our Zen dogs safety and happiness is our top priority. In order to guarantee that our clients peace of mind, we have developed our very own mobile app called Handlr that allows pet parents to book last minute services, receive check-in and check-out notifications, view photos, receive daily updates, and GPS track their dog walker. Trust and transparency is everything to us. It could be very easy for a dog walker to say they showed up at your house to walk your dog, but did they really? We never, ever want our clients to worry. With the Handlr app they will always know that their dogs are being well-cared for. All of our team members are not only the biggest dog lovers, but they’re also background checked, insured, trained, employees (not contractors). We are also constantly educating ourselves by attending conferences and are members of the National Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the Pet Sitters Associates and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters.

APL: What pets do you currently own?

2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses claim me as their human. Daisy and Taj are golden retrievers who are the light of my life. Tiger is a Mokave Jag cat and Monkey is a mixture of cuteness who rescued us. Moo is a goofy, American Paint who is obsessed with food and Gracie is a beautiful, Oldenburg mare who we recently adopted. I also get to be the lucky Auntie to over 200 dogs in San Diego! All of our Zen dogs feel like they are a part of our family.
