Flying with your pet can be challenging but fun. Southwest Airlines makes it easy for you to travel with your cat and dog. Pets are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached - which is six pets per flight. So, before you start getting your pet ready to travel with you, make sure you make a reservation in advance. On the day of travel, make sure to bring your pet to the airport in an approved pet carrier.
If you do not have a pet carrier, you can get your official Southwest Airlines branded pet carrier for $48 at any Southwest Airport Ticket Counter or on southwest.com.
Pets must be secured in the pet carrier at all times while in the gate area, during boarding/deplaning and they must remain in the carrier for the entire duration of the flight. Note that pet carriers are considered either a personal item or a carryon item and cats and dogs must be at least eight weeks old for travel.
Most airports now have a Pet Relief area so that your dog can do their necessities before or after their journey.
You are now free to go for a walk about the country!
