Giving in Action

Known as America’s Finest City, San Diego is all heart and believes in making a difference for animals. Looking for a way to give back? In addition to the many already listed or spotlighted on our pages, we share a list of San Diego pet non-profits who would love your support:

1. Chihuahua Dog Rescue of San Diego- Chihuahuas are one of the most over-represented breeds in San Diego shelters, so they are dedicated to rescuing and caring for homeless, abandoned and injured Chihuahuas. Providing medical attention, loving foster homes and adoption counseling to find the adoptable dogs the most suitable forever homes. www.chihuahuarescueofsandiego.com

2. San Diego House Rabbit Society- For 25 years, San Diego House Rabbit Society has supported our community through education about responsible rabbit care, spay/neuter, and adoption. A 501(c)(3) volunteer-driven nonprofit organization, which depends on donations from the community to fund their work of rescue, adoption, and education. www.sandiegorabbits.org

3. Ride Above Disability- Their Therapeutic riding programs could not operate without generous donations. The programs enhance physical, emotional, social, cognitive, behavioral and educational skills for people with special needs. They focus on riding skills but also the development of a relationship between horse and rider. www.radtrc.org

4. San Diego Humane Society- As San Diego’s oldest nonprofit organization, they offer San Diegans a wide range of programs and services that strengthen the human-animal bond, prevent cruelty/neglect, provide medical care, educate the community on the humane treatment of animals and provide safety net services for all pet families needing assistance with keeping their pets. www.sdhumane.org

5. San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society- As one of the largest rescue societies of its kind in the United States with nearly 500 current members they work to foster and adopt out relinquished turtles and tortoises to safe and suitable homes and educate the public in the proper care of turtles and tortoises. www.sdturtle.org

6. Labradors, Retrievers & More- In just 7 short years their volunteers have worked to give hope to over 7,000 dogs in need of a chance at life. These rescued dogs were often on their last day of life in a shelter, on the streets, or abandoned by their owners. You can help in so many ways! www.labsandmore.org
