Blessing of the Animals

Pets and pet owners joined in the traditional Old Town Blessing of the Animals. The afternoon celebrated all the animals that make life special with a blessing ceremony by Monsignor and a day of pet-friendly fun. The annual Benediction of the Beasts celebrates St. Anthony of the Desert, the Patron Saint of Animals. It was also a great opportunity to meet many adoptable animals!

FACE Foundation’s Closets for a Cause

How Style Saves Lives.

Since 2006, the Foundation for Animal Care and Education (FACE) has found creative ways to raise money for animals in need of emergency veterinary care. The non-profit was established to eliminate "economic euthanasia" in San Diego County and has enlisted the help of community members to contribute in unexpected ways. The Closets for a Cause consignment program is one of FACE's longest-running fundraising efforts, turning spring-cleaning into a vehicle for giving back.

...is it really even a question?

Sally had an unplanned litter of puppies. At the time, she was a stray and just a pup herself. One day, someone saw Sally alone on the side of the road and brought her into the local shelter. We don't know for certain what became of her puppies, but it's safe to assume they probably experienced the same hardships that Sally did – either living on the streets, or ending up in a shelter. Sally's story epitomizes the problem of animal overpopulation.
